We were victims of extortion 15 days ago. An online blackmail gang from East Europe contacted us and told us to pay them $10,000 as protection money. In return, our website will not be attacked and shut down. The owners of HooPay rejected the “protection offer“.

Within a week of that initial contact, the website was hammered with a Brute Force and a DDoS attack. The engineers at the Data Center hosting the site were quick to deploy preventive measures to block the DDOS which lasted for days in intervals or 15 to 20 minutes between attacks but it was not enough. Few of our servers were broken consequence of the DDoS attack and we are fixing them today.

The attackers gave up after a week. The DDoS has been mitigated and the attack is over.

For that reason you are now reading this news. The website will be ready as fast as possible and you will have all services ready to use.

We are going to integrate some tools to prevent this damage in the future and we are in contacts to get a DDoS solution from a famous DDoS mitigation company.

HooPay will has new features in the website when we return the next week.

API (Application Programming Interface) is a simple interface that allows you (the account holder, seller or merchant) to make payments instantly from your account to your customers or friends accounts, get the transactions history or know the balance instantly without logging in the HooPay website.

We have made a complete guide to developers and you can download from your "Manage APIs" section inside your HooPay's account.

The API 2.0 has got a SHA256 encryptation to verification purposes and you can set all parameters in the "Manage APIs" section of the HooPay's account.

With that said, HooPay's offices and Customer Support line will be closed on Friday, December 25, 2009 and Friday, January 1, 2010.

(You can still send and request money, make purchases and use any of our services.)

For exchangers: Any bank transfers or wires initiated within a few days of either of those dates will be delayed by one day. For example, if you initiate a bank transfer on Thursday, December 31, the transaction may only be complete the following Friday.

Furthermore, Customer Support will not be available on either of those days, though you can still submit a support ticket which we will get to as soon as we can.
